Barcode document filing technology saves time and resources

Businesses ask, Brother delivers: new barcode document filing technology saves time and resources

Businesses with volume scanning needs could save vast amounts of administration time thanks to a new automated barcode filing programme pioneered by technology specialist Brother.

Barcode Utility, developed in response to customer feedback, dynamically indexes and automatically saves documents to pre-programmed network FTP or SFTP folders. This solution is available only on special solutions-ready models of the ADS Network Scanner range.

The programme can detect up to 13 of the most commonly used 1D and 2D barcode types and save PDF, PDF/A and TIFF format files to pre-defined folders. It can also collate individual pages and save them as one document. [insert local office hyperlink]

The technology is particularly helpful for businesses regularly scanning documents containing barcodes, such as those in the insurance, online retail and logistics sectors.
In the insurance sector, for example, barcodes are widely used to help organise case files. Previously an administrator would have to scan documents and manually drop them into folders for various departments or claims teams. Now however, the detection of an assigned barcode triggers barcode utility to implement job control, batch separation and automatic indexing of documents to save files in a single specified destination without prompting.

Automation of the process via Barcode Utility also reduces the risks of human error and saves time.

The pioneering technology is only currently available on special solutions-ready versions of ADS Network Scanner models ADS-2400N, ADS-2800W, ADS-3000N and the flagship ADS-3600W.

Barcode utility is also set to be available as an optional extra on the following print and multifunction devices: DCP-L5500DN, DCP-L6600DW, DCP-L8410CDW, MFC-L5700DN, MFC-L5750DW, MFC-L6800DW, MFC-L6900DW, MFC-L8690CDW, MFC-L8900DW MFC-L9570CDW, in early 2018.

Henning Elkjær, Brother Nordic A/S, Denmark said: “Our scanning devices are designed to make life easy for our customers. A critical part of innovation and product development is simply taking the time to listen to customer needs and developing responsive functionality.
“Barcode Utility is a feature borne out of our close work with customers. It is a fantastic development that promises to help businesses automate this vital area of administration, freeing up staff to undertake more business-critical tasks.”
